ARTIST STATEMENT

 

My paintings depict a quiet, uncomplicated portrait of the Maine waterfront. Living and painting on the southern Maine coast for over twenty-five years, I've come to love the weathered surfaces and textures that tell its story. The land, architecture and people that frame the water's edge bare the worn and faded patina that comes from resisting the salt air and relentless ocean tides. There is a utilitarian and uniquely human beauty in it all, which I attempt to convey in the simplest of terms.
